Passing of a Beloved Member of Our BPS Family- Gale Dickau

Posted Date: 02/11/26 (04:00 PM)

Dear Bristol Public Schools Community,

It is with deep sadness that I acknowledge the passing of a beloved member of our Bristol Public Schools family, Gale Dickau, who died on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at the age of 79.

Gale’s life was defined by learning, storytelling, and an unwavering devotion to her students.  She began her teaching career at Bristol Central High School in 1972 and remained there for her entire 49-year career, retiring in 2017, a proud member of the "Ramily".   Even after retirement, Gale continued to serve as Gifted Coach and Magazine Advisor.  Gale had the gift of seeing potential before students saw it in themselves, and she nurtured that potential with encouragement, high expectations, humor, and heart.  Her commitment and excellence were recognized throughout her distinguished career. She was named Bristol Public Schools Teacher of the Year (1992–1993), received the prestigious Milken Educator Award in 1993, and was honored with the Distinguished Alumni Award from the University of Saint Joseph in 1994.

As educators we aim to engage and inspire our students and be the catalyst for their lifetime love of learning.  Gale accomplished that and more, not only inspiring her students, but her fellow educators as well.  Gale was a legend in our community and will be greatly missed.

On behalf of Bristol Public Schools, we extend our deepest condolences to Gale’s family and to the many former students and colleagues who mourn her loss. We are grateful beyond words for her 49+ years of service, her passion, and her love for Bristol’s children.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, February 19, 2026, at O’Brien Funeral Home, 24 Lincoln Ave., Bristol, beginning at 10:00 a.m., with memorial tributes at 1:00 p.m.  Memorial Service is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.  Please click here to view the obituary:  https://www.legacy.com/us/obituaries/name/gale-dickau-obituary?id=60767839.
