Posted Date: 9/29/25 (8:00 PM)

Dear BPS Community:

This is a reminder that all BPS will be closed this Thursday, October 2nd, 2025, in observance of Yom Kippur.  All BPS schools will reopen on Friday, October 3rd, 2025.

In partnership,
Iris White
Superintendent of Schools
October 2nd, 2025, is also National Custodian Appreciation Day.  Thank you to our custodians who work hard to keep our schools clean and safe!  On behalf of the entire district, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to our custodial teams. Your hard work, attention to detail, and commitment to our schools do not go unnoticed. Thank you for all you do to support learning and community in every hallway, classroom, and common space.

Foreign Exchange Program:

We want to thank the community for hosting our exchange program.  The twelve students really enjoyed their three-week visit here from Spain. They were able to visit Lake Compounce, Fun City, enjoy their first ever football game, change shadow students to get the most of their educational experience, attend a volleyball game, go to the Big E, and play with the marching band at Bristol Eastern, end their last day saying our pledge and leading the morning announcements, and so much more.  They will forever be members of the Lancer Community.
A special note of appreciation to Ms. Crystal Davis-Branch, School Counselor at Bristol Eastern High School, who was the lead organizer of the program.

Unified Soccer Tournament at Bristol Central High School:
It was an honor for Bristol Central High School to host the ESPN Unified Arts Sports Tournament last Wednesday.  This was a truly special occasion, one that celebrated not only athletic skill, but also the values of inclusion, teamwork, and community that are at the heart of Bristol Public Schools and our All Heart City of Bristol.  Unified Sports, through the leadership of CAS-CIAC and in proud partnership with Special Olympics, has transformed the way we think about competition.  These events help our young people develop resilience, leadership skills, and empathy while fostering friendships.  As a school district, we stand fully behind Unified Sports and the vision it represents.  We are grateful to the CAS-CIAC and Special Olympics for their leadership, to the coaches and staff for their dedication, and to our families and community members for the encouragement and support they provide every day.  Most of all, I want to recognize our student-athletes.  Your courage, your sportsmanship, and your enthusiasm inspire all of us.  You remind us why these games are so important.  Photos from this event are attached to this message.

Connecticut Miss Amazing Teen 2025:
Congratulations to Lianna Desjardins, who was named CT Miss Amazing Teen 2025. Miss Amazing creates spaces where girls and women with disabilities can define who they are and what they love on their own terms. Through programs that foster confidence, community, and self-advocacy, participants discover their passions and chart their futures with pride, purpose, and power.    Here is the link for more information.

Bristol Education Foundation (BEF) Trivia Night:
The Bristol Education Foundation will hold its annual Trivia Night on October 24, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. at the Double Tree Hotel.
