Passing of Former Board of Education Commissioner Karen Vibert

Posted Date: 7/31/25 (10:15 AM)

Dear BPS Community:

It is with sadness that I share the passing of former Bristol Board of Education Commissioner Karen Vibert.  Ms. Vibert was elected to the Bristol Board of Education in November 2007 and served until January 2023.  She also served as Vice-Chair from December 2011 to December 2013 and again from November 2015 to November 2019.  During this time, she made significant contributions to the success and growth of our school district.  Ms. Vibert was a true advocate for public education, a champion for teachers, administrators, and staff, and her decisions were rooted in what was best for students.

I never met Mrs. Vibert, but know her through the stories of friends and colleagues who spoke of her warmth, kindness, and love for helping others.  Her commitment to BPS helped shape the direction of our district and created lasting opportunities for our students.

Born and raised in Bristol, she volunteered with the Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, Forestville Little League, and numerous other community organizations—her unwavering commitment to service extended beyond the Board, touching many lives throughout Bristol.

Thank you, Karen.  Rest easy.

I extend my heartfelt condolences to her family, friends, and all those whose lives were touched by her service and spirit.
